No. 7                         Tuesday 14th March, 2000.

Dear Parents,

Lent has begun.  On the 1st Sunday of Lent we are reminded in the scripture readings from
Genesis of how Noah was saved from wicked people by the flood waters.  At the Easter
vigil, in about six weeks time, we will be asked to recall our own Baptism with water and to
renew our vows to renounce Satan and all his evil works and to proclaim again our faith in God.

At Easter Time we will rejoice in the Resurrection of Christ and be reminded of Christ’s promise that if we are faithful to the Gospel we too will rise from the dead and enjoy eternal life.

Lent is a time to concentrate on the life of Christ. He said “I am the WAY  the TRUTH and the LIFE.  No one can go to the Father except through me”.

No matter how important our daily life is, it needs to be linked with life after death. Are we caught up completely with the day to day cares, joys and sorrows of this world, or do we see our
life here as a journey with God to our eternal home?  The problems and trials of this
world, even though real and painful will pass away, perhaps sooner than we think.
Christ’s life, death and resurrection reminds us that God’s love is forever.

Yours sincerely,

PAUL HOOKWAY.
Principal

THE VIRTUES PROJECT:
TRUTHFULNESS
“ Then have done with falsehood and speak the truth to each other, for we
belong to one another as parts of one body.”
      Ephesians 4:25
WHAT IS  TRUTHFULNESS?
Truthfulness means your words and actions are full of truth. Telling the truth means you don’t tell lies, even to protect youself or anyone else.  You don’t live a lie either.  You show people who and what you are without exagerating to impress them or trying to look like something you are not.
AFFIRMATION:   I am truthful. I speak the truth. I see the truth with my own eyes.  I have no need to impress others or exaggerate. I can be my true self.

R.E. NEWS:
CONFIRMATION:   There will be a Parent meeting for Confirmation on Wednesday 22nd March at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall.  At this meeting Father Paul McDonald will speak about the Sacrament and what happens in our Parish, and an outline of what the children will be doing in class during Term 2.

ST PATRICK’S DAY:   This Friday, 17th March is St Patrick’s  Day. St Patrick is the patron saint of our school and our Diocese.   We will be celebrating our school’s feast day with Mass at 9:15 a.m. in the Church.  The liturgy of the word for the Mass will be prepared by Year 4.  At 11:30 we will go down to the Murwillumbah pool for a swim followed by a sausage sizzle at 1:00 p.m.  There will be no charge.  All parents are invited to come along and join in our celebrations.  It will be a GREEN mufti day for the children.

ASSEMBLY  will be held on Thursday 16th – this week only (due to St Patrick’s Day on Friday).  It will be held in the school basement at 12 midday and prepared by Year 3 and Year 3-4.

ANZAC DAY:   This year ANZAC DAY (25th April) falls on a Tuesday in the 2nd week of the Easter school holidays.
It has been traditional for Mt St Patrick Primary to be well represented at the March to the Cenotaph.
However, due to ANZAC DAY falling in the second week of the holidays (Easter Tuesday) families may be away on holidays.  In order to gauge the number of children who would be able to participate in the March please complete the tear off at the end of the Newsletter and return it to the school this week if possible.

SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS have just arrived and will be sent home later in the week.

SPORT:   Congratulations to the 10 children who competed at the Diocesan Swimming Carnival last Friday.  Their behaviour was excellent and although no one qualified for the next level, they all had good swims.
Our primary swimming carnival is next Monday 20th.  Thank you to the parents who have already volunteered to assist.  The 100m freestyle and 200 IM have already been raced, with points accumulating for age champions and house points.  All 50m age races, 25m freestyle and breast stroke and relays as well as novelty activities will be held at the carnival.
There will be no infant swimming next week, and their carnival is the following Monday 27th.
The primary carnival is the last week of swimming for primary students.  We will concentrate on training for the school cross country which will be held on Monday 10th April in the showground.
